"Art is a lie that makes us realize the truth"

Picasso, be mine? Thanks.

  1. I disagree. Art isn't necessarily a lie. In fact, our ability to create is something that is part of the image of God in us-He endowed us with that ability. So therefore, art isn't necessarily a lie, but rather it depends on what we do with that ability.

  2. No, it isn't necessarily a lie. However, I think Picasso is saying that art is not truth, but a representation of truth-an imperfect reflection. A painting of a tree is not truly a tree, but draws our awareness to the reality of a tree's existence. Much like myths or fairy stories are "lies" that drive the reality of distinct truths into our hearts.
